He was murdered. After about seven days of inquiry into his 'death', his relatives went to the mortuary with a coffin to take his body but were shocked to find him alive.
Lazarus Oluwafemi Agbolahan Makinde, now an evangelist shares his story.
To hear him, especially through the telephone receiver, you must be determined and very patient. The first time this reporter called him, the impression that initially came through as the voice was barely audible, was that he must have been tired out or had some ailment. It was indeed difficult deciphering the near whisper.
On meeting him, he came through as a very happy man, and the way he carried himself made that obvious. However, speaking with him explained the cause of the piteous voice quality… His throat was slashed; his head smashed and his genitals were severed in a bizarre murder act. But he is alive to tell the story! And to work on the astonishing story he told in Egba variant-tinted Yoruba language made it even more engaging, considering the fact that he had no western education.
Evangelist Makinde's joy at being alive and able to bear children came through as he struggled to be heard and understood. And this explains his eagerness to tell his story over and over again.
Excerpts:
What Happened?
On the fateful day, two of my journey-men came to me and said they would like to go to my house with me and would sleep in my house. I asked them why and they both said their brothers had visitors. I told them I would not be driving home as I had intended to preach in the bus I would board… I was rounding off a three-day fast. Nevertheless, we went home together.
When we got home, I made three cups of tea and I went out to buy bread so we could eat from the stew my wife had prepared before she travelled. They said they were okay but I insisted. On my way, a neighbour, who is also a member of our church, and my landlord's wife saw them and asked who my visitors were and I told them they were my co-workers who had come to pass the night in my house.
While I was away, they had added something to my tea and without knowing this I blessed the tea and drank. I passed out. In that state of unconsciousness, they slit my throat with a knife and removed my Adam's apple, smashed my head so much that my brain could be seen and also cut my genitals. They took my money, locked me in the room and went away, leaving me for dead. And to think that they were my employees I was paying. One of them was Lukman Osunbiyi of Arigbajo near Ifo in Ogun State.
After some days, a foul smell had enveloped our yard and our neighbour's. A neighbour known as Baba Isaac was the one that raised the issue of what was smelling because my room was adjacent to his. People were searching their rooms to find it. My room is on the way to the conveniences of our compound and our landlord was the one that found out that the smell was coming from my room. He called his wife, Mummy Moji, and asked what could be smelling in my room, 'has he got dogs?' The woman said she knew I had no dog. The man said they should send for my relations but they called our church members.
When the church members arrived at the scene, they said they could not break the door. So, they went and fetched my brother who was at Itire-Ijesha, known as Brother Kunle. He was the one that drove to Area G police station at Ogba. The police came, demanded for the duplicate key to my room from the landlord and he told them he could not lay his hands on the spare key. The police broke the door and they found my body in a pool of blood in the room… After four days.
This was late in the night of the fourth day. They took me to Idi Araba (Lagos University Teaching Hospital) and they were told to go and bury me. They went to Island Hospital, I was rejected; they went to Igbobi and they also rejected me there. I was eventually deposited at the Ikeja General Hospital mortuary. On the seventh day after the incident, members of our family went to Ikeja to retrieve my body. They went with a coffin, but the Almighty God had some point to prove. I was stacked with other dead bodies and when they got to me, they saw that I had raised my left hand and was waving it.
There was shouting and commotion at the mortuary. They took me into the hospital for treatment. I noticed that the doctors were confused as to where to start from or what to do. They had cut my throat and severed the oesophagus, my head was wide open while my manhood was dangling. But God raised one of the doctors, a white man named Daniel, through whom my rehabilitation commenced at the Ikeja General Hospital. He was the one who began some repairs of my throat and head. But it was difficult because the throat was gone, it is a cartilage and could hardly be sewn; while my head could sustain nothing and was gushing.
But somehow, he managed to cut an opening though the base of my neck and created a duct through which I was fed and given medicines. Breathing was a huge task, given the wound and the pain. And remember, my genitals were severed and suture was also nearly impossible.
There were lots of plastic holds and bandages on my neck and others… it was a sight to behold. I was later transferred to the ward.
It will interest you to know that while I was there in the ward, God appeared to me on two different occasions and said: "I am the Lord, your God. I have a task which you must accomplish." After four days in the ward, all the pipes on me were removed by God knows who. Yes, my eyes were open but I could not see. It is needless to say that I could not talk. How and when the pipes were removed, I did not know. I kept hearing a voice telling me: "Am I not your God?" Amid that voice, the plastic and other things on my head were removed. When the nurses and others saw what had happened, there was commotion. They were asking who removed the things. They thought I had died and were confused.
When Dr Daniel arrived, he saw what had happened and exclaimed that he had never seen such a thing before. Eventually, they took me back to the theatre. He tried to replace the pipes and so on.
So, were there arrests after you came back to life?
When the news spread that I had resurrected, one of the persons that killed me committed suicide. The man's was known as Olumide Timilehin. Lukman Osunbiyi ran away. I was told I could not procreate because my genitals had been severed. Secondly, the doctors also said that my brain was gone and that I would just be kept in a place and be fed and that I would not speak. I was passed as vegetable. It was such a difficult period. But God had some other plans.
One day, as our pastor was walking towards me and I just called out his name… I mean Pastor Oke, who was our pastor then at Christ Freedom Evangelical Ministry. That was the day I regained my voice and began to talk again. It was a great day of joy. In fact, when my mother heard what had happened, she walked to Ikeja, almost naked, to see for herself. Even after that incident, I still remained rooted to a spot, immobile.
While there, I kept hearing the police and the people talk about Lukman. The police asked me if I knew where he lived and I said I knew the place in Mushin. They asked if I could see and I said yes, just put me in the vehicle. When we got to Lukman's residence at Mushin, we were directed to where he was at play. When we arrived at the place, they crosschecked his face with that in the photograph they had and saw that it was him truly. He attempted to jump over the fence but he was arrested by the policemen and my family members.
They accused him of murder and the matter was taken to court. It was during the hearings in court that Lukman revealed how they came about committing the murder. He spilled the beans, and revealed those who paid them to kill me. He said it was my half-brothers that paid him and Olumide to kill me in my room. There also, one of my brothers admitted that they agreed among themselves, and with Lukman, to just waste me.
Was Lukman jailed or what?
Towards the end of the matter, pointers were that Lukman and others could be sentenced to death as that was the submission of the state which was prosecuting the case. On one of the hearing days, I raised my hand and requested to speak. When I was given the opportunity, I asked that the matter be left for God to judge. I said I wouldn't want to see them killed by the cause of this case. At some point in the matter, members of the family of Lukman came to my family and offered me N2million then, begging me to forgive their son and spare his life. They came through my relations and expressed disappointment in their son and brother. They were sorry and wanted to compensate me, but I said I did not need the money. I told them that it was God that brought me back to life and I therefore leave everything to Him.
What is your advice to people?
Anyone that has Christ has it all… Anyone that has Christ and believes in Him, and does the will of God. He says we are the temple of God and that He would fight for us. He is that one that fought for me because we are more than conquerors because of He who loves us. That is my story. I didn't even tell you about my tongue that I bit so hard when I was struggling with death… I almost bit my tongue into two in the struggle for life.
The address is Abeokuta Street at Oke Odo, in Pleasure area. There is a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in front of the place. The people there would tell more than I have because they saw it all.

Gel balls new threat to toddlers, Us Based nigerian Doctor Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - After surgically removing a large gel ball blocking the intestines of a baby girl, Texas doctors are warning parents about a new kind of water-absorbing balls often sold as playthings.
The colored balls, marketed under the brand name Water Balz by Ohio-based DuneCraft Inc, are small to begin with, but can grow to the size of a racquetball when placed in water.
For orally fixated toddlers, that can be a problem, said Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, a pediatric surgeon at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
"It goes in small and grows on the inside and may not come out," he told Reuters Health.
That was the case for an eight-month-old girl, who was brought to Texas Children's with stomach problems. Her parents suspected she had eaten one of her sister's Water Balz, and their concerns grew when they read on the label that the balls expand up to 400 times if placed in water.
Olutoye and his colleagues could see on x-rays that part of the child's small intestine was distended, as if something was blocking it, but they couldn't see the culprit. Over the next 48 hours, the girl's belly grew bigger and bigger and her symptoms didn't go away.
"The blockage allows fluid and gas to accumulate, it is just like you step on a hose," said Olutoye, whose report appeared Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
Finally, the doctors took the baby to the operating room. They cut her intestine open and drew from it a bright-green Water Balz nearly an inch and a half across.
She recovered and is doing fine, according to Olutoye.
The surgeon said that as this type of product becomes more common, parents and doctors alike need to be aware of the danger it poses if swallowed. He explained that if the intestine is blocked long enough, the building pressure may eventually cause it to rupture.
"If this is not taken care of really quickly, there can actually be a perforation… and you can die from it," said Olutoye.
DuneCraft's CEO Grant Cleveland said he was sorry to learn of the incident. He noted that the Water Balz product already carries warnings on the label and is recommended for kids over 3.
"An eight-month-old has no business being near that product," he told Reuters Health. "Trying to turn it in to a public risk is absurd."
The new report is the first in humans, said Olutoye, although there have been cases of birds dying after eating a similar gel product used in gardening and agriculture. He added warned that the balls should be kept away from pets.

Good Samaritan jailed for catching a ‘thief’
According to PM news
Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday sentenced an employee of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Ibrahim Fasasi, to one month imprisonment for stabbing a man, he suspected to be a thief, with a knife.
Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya, who gave the judgment, said the sentence should be served with hard labour.
Fasasi had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
The magistrate said:“With the evidence before this court and the plea of the accused, he is hereby found guilty as charged.
“But, bearing in mind that the accused is a first offender and in consideration of the peculiar facts of the case, the accused is hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Victor Eruada, had told the court that Fasasi committed the offence on 17 August at Oyingbo market.
According to him, the accused had mistaken the complainant, Gabriel Babalola, for the man, who allegedly stole some items from a shop and stabbed him.
“The accused ran after the complainant to apprehend him for stealing. He asked him to surrender his bag, but he refused.
“In the process, the accused brought out a knife and stabbed the complainant on his hand and collected the bag.
“Unfortunately, the owner of the shop said the complainant was not the one who stole the items,’’ Eruada said.
He said both the accused and the complainant were taken to the police station by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol.
Eruada said the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State

Police parade Cynthia Osokogu's killers; they narrate how they raped and killed her
Two murder suspects who were paraded today by the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Echezona Nwabufor, 33, and Ezekiel Nnechuwu Olisa Eloka, 23, have narrated how they drugged the daughter of a retired General, Miss Cynthia Akuzogwu Udoka, 25, and strangled her in order to steal her money.
One of the suspects, Eloka, said they killed Cynthia because they thought she had a lot of money in her possession. But after the dastardly act, they did not find a reasonable amount of money on her.
According to the suspects, “we met her on the facebook on our Blackberry. We invited her to come to Lagos to buy goods at cheap prices.
“When she got to Lagos, we took her to a hotel in Festac. We thought she had a lot of money, but she said she didn’t have any money. We gave her Reflon tablet in her Ribena drink. After this, we slept with her for 12 hours in that hotel. We discovered that the tablet did not work quickly on her.
“We then attacked her, tied her up and used cellotape to cover her mouth. After that, we beat her to tell us where she kept the money.
“When we didn’t get any money from her, we tied her mouth and strangled her and then we abandoned her in the hotel and fled.”
The suspects and the General’s daughter became friends on Facebook and were exchanging messages and phone calls.
She told them she was coming to Lagos. They met her at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja from where they ushered her into a hotel in Festac town, Lagos.
Briefing journalists on how policemen were able to arrest the suspects, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Abubakar Manko, said detectives made use of the close circuit television, CCTV, at the hotel where the crime was committed to identify them.
The Area Commander, Area ‘E’ Police Command, ACP Okoro added that the suspects who are undergraduates of Nigerian universities were nabbed through the call logs of the telephone conversations they had with the late Cynthia who was a post graduate student of Nasarawa State University.
When the suspected killers strangled Cynthia, they deposited her corpse at the mortuary of Isolo General Hospital in Lagos.
ACP Okoro stated that many ATM cards, about 23 SIM cards, different identity cards were recovered from the suspects.
Police sources said the two suspects will soon be arraigned in court to answer a charge of murder.

Odunlade Adekola and English movies
The winner of the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards, Odunlade Adekola, wastes no time in telling his critics that he is not eager to accept a role in any Nollywood movie shot in English.
According to Adekola Odunlade ,
And to those who imagine that he has been shying away from such films because of his little knowledge of English, he replies, “That is not true. Contrary to what you think, I have appeared in two English language movies that have not been released. Soon, I will proceed on a location for yet another English language film.”
The actor is not obliged to apologise to anyone for his preference for Yoruba films. “It’s a life long dream of mine to become a world-class actor with bias for expressing myself in my mother tongue, which is Yoruba. I really don’t see how that has negatively affected some people. Really, I’m not crazy about the English roles because I don’t believe in trying too hard to speak the language that cannot bring out the best in me as a core and proud Yoruba man.
“Do the Amita Bachans and the Kapoors of India and the Yang Yin or Chang Chong from China try too hard to speak English? Why should my own case or those of us proudly projecting our indigenous language be different? Those popular soap operas that our ladies nowadays love to watch so much on TV that are from South America were not originally voiced in English language but Spanish.
“They are complaining that I love to act in Yoruba films a lot, but what the complainants don’t realise is, I’m creating job opportunities for graduates of English language to subtitle my films in English,” he says.
Femi Adebayo ‘Jelili’ Dumps Wife, 3 Kids For New Lover
According to a report by Metronews, popular Yoruba actor, Femi Adebayo, who incidentally is the son of veteran Nollywood actor, Adebayo Salami known as Oga Bello has eventually dumped his wife and three kids for another woman.
It was reported that Femi, who is well known as ‘Jelili, has now found love in a beautiful lady identified as Moji.
The report said that Femi’s marriage to his wife, Khadijat became stormy last year, but only recently left his matrimonial home leaving his three kids behind. He was said to have rented an apartment around Iwo Road, Ibadan.
The report further said that Moji now parades herself as Femi’s ‘first lady’ and she’s seen with him at his drama school and other places. She is said to be a regular visitor to Femi’s new house.
According to the report, effort to reconcile his family has yielded no fruitful result. The cause of his marriage break-up with Khadijat is still uncertain, but friends of the estranged couple are doing everything possible to seek spiritual help in settling the problem, as it was reported.
You will recall that Femi’s marriage survived a reported Funke Akindele’s intrusion few years ago. It was reported that it took the effort of Femi’s father, Oga Bello to make Femi come mellow down on his reported romantic affair with Funke Akindele, who is now married.
Interestingly, Femi’s brother, Sunkanmi got married on Saturday, July 6, 2012 in Ibadan, which he attended.

FG overrules NYSC on postings to troubled states
NYSC Canditates are still going to be sent to ....Boko haram area: I wonder why ....
Read below the response from FEDERAL GOVT:
Federal Government has overruled the National Youth Service Corps on the redeployment of corps members from troubled states.
Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday. Abdulkadir insisted that corps members would be posted to Borno, Yobe and other troubled states.
His positing supersedes an earlier concession granted to the affected corps members by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-General Nnamdi Okore-Affia.
The DG, had in a statement on July 5 directed corps members posted to Yobe to proceed to Nasarawa State, while those scheduled to have their orientation in Borno were directed to Benue State.
The minister argued that the issue of posting of corps members to states other than their states of origin was enshrined in the relevant laws establishing the scheme.
Abdulkadir said any other form of concessional posting of corps members apart from the grounds of health and marriage would require constitutional amendment.
On the resolution passed by the House of Representatives, he said the position of the ministry remained the position of the law.
The House had in a resolution said the NYSC should halt posting of corps members to troubled states.
The minister said, “Talking about the National Assembly’s resolution vis-a vis our position here. My position is that of the law.
“The fundamental thing is that the NYSC is a constitutional issue; the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is supreme.
“Of course, the NYSC initially was established through a military decree in 1973 because of its potential to the existence of Nigeria as a nation.
“And in pursuance of a deliberate policy to set up something that will always and continue to integrate Nigerians and bring about harmony amongst Nigerians, among other things, the framers of the 1979 Constitution deemed it fit to make the NYSC law part of the constitution.
” So if you are going to make any amendment to the NYSC or alter anything, you have to alter the constitution. That is the position.
“In that regard, posting of corps members to states, apart from their own, except in some special circumstances, is governed by the law and must be adhered to.”
He recalled that many Nigerians died during the civil war.
The minister stated, “Don’t forget that a number of people went to the civil war. A number of Nigerians went to the war front they were killed they left families.
“There are people who up till now who for no fault of theirs because by circumstances they were born during the period of the war they were not armed they got incapacitated. They have disabilities and they are living with those disabilities because of the war. This is a sacrifice to the nation.”
He criticised the protest by some corps members in Abuja, saying at the time of the protest the protesters, who wore NYSC uniform, had not registered.
Abdulkadir said, “How did they even get uniforms to wear? If they are really mobilised to go and serve where did they get the corpers’ uniform to come and assemble before the office of the NYSC to say they are protesting that they want to go or will not go.”Cuddled from Punch .

Church: N300,000 Offering Money Turns to Paper
Wonders, they say, shall never cease. At St. Mary's Parish in Jos, Plateau State, it's mysterious to the leadership and members of the church how N300,000 that was realised as collection suddenly turned into bundle of papers.
According to nigeriafilms, they gathered that the strange incident happened at the banking hall of Zenith Bank main branch in Jos, where the Church Secretary, Miss Ifeoma Eze had gone to deposit the whole collection that day.
Ifeoma explained that the money was intact when she left home for the bank but on getting to the counter she could not fathom how the money turned into pieces of paper when she opened the polythene bag that contained the money.
She was so confused and scared that she started screaming and was oblivious of the attention she was attracting as bewildered customers tried to console her.
Miss Ifeoma said she was particularly confused because she was wondering how to relay the story to the Parish Priest who entrusted the money to her.
"It is a story I find difficulty in telling anyone because not many people can believe it,'' she added.
Confirming that she actually took the "real" money with her, Miss Ifeoma said she even changed the smaller denominations into bigger ones to ease the deposit processes in the bank.
Although some members of the church thinks there was a foul play somewhere, but Rev. Father Emmanuel Ray-Ikpe, the Parish Priest, described the incident as "unfortunate, surprising and mysterious".
"I have never heard of such a thing before but it has happened to us; to our Church. There is nothing we can do about it. My secretary came back from the bank crying. Only God knows what exactly happened... We have left everything in the hands of God our creator,'' the Reverend Father said.

Pastor Chris Okotie's 2nd Marriage Ends with Divorce
Chris Okotie's 2nd Marriage Ends with Divorce Causes Mixed reactions
Mixed reactions have continued to surround the announcement made on Sunday by Head Pastor, Household of God Church , Rev. Chris Okotie, that his marriage to Stephanie Henshaw had ended due to irreconcilable differences.
While most of the comments are uncomplimentary, a few people are at a loss as to the reasons behind the break-up of the union of the glamorous couple.
Some feels that : .
Some people are of the opinion that Pastor Chris may not have been patient enough.
The announcement which was made shortly before the close of service came as a surprise to the congregation, as they were speechless for some time.
The Sunday service, which coincided with the Cleric’s 54th birthday celebration, had witnessed soul lifting songs and dances interspersed with fervent prayers, ministration and cutting of the cake.
Thereafter, an emotion laden Okotie, suddenly drew the attention of the church saying, “Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she’s not in church today. It’s due to irreconcilable differences and you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back.”
A statement on the separation attributed to the church and made available to The PUNCH by one Ladi Ayodeji, also corroborated the pastor’s stance. It partly read, “The Pastor of our Church, the Household of God, Oregun, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie , announced his separation from Stephanie, his wife of four years, at the end of service last Sunday.
“Both parties arrived at this decision after a careful review of the prevailing circumstances which pointed to the fact that it is the best option for them at this time. They also agreed not to divulge details of this incident for personal reasons.”

Mande Bala, 48, arrested at Murtala Muhammed Airport with 66 wraps of narcotics in private part
Law enforcement agents and travellers were last week astonished when 66 wraps of narcotics, which tested positive to methamphetamine, were discovered in the private part of Mande Bala, 48, at the screening section of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on June 15, 2012.
The lady was promptly arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency shortly before she was due to board a Kenyan Airways flight to Nairobi.
The NDLEA Commander at the airport, Hamza Umar, confirmed the arrest. He said, “The quantity of drugs that Bala had inserted in her private part was so much that it affected her gait, drawing the attention of the NDLEA officials. No suspect has ever inserted such a large quantity of drugs in the country. Usually, cases of insertion are not more than 300g. The discovery was shocking.”
CRIME DIGEST gathered that in all, the 66 wraps of methamphetamine expelled from Bala’s private part weighed 1kg.
Bala, who claimed to be a widow and mother of three, told CRIME DIGEST that she was pushed to trafficking in drugs in order to raise school fees for her children. She said, “I am a widow; my husband died in 2007. I have got three children to take care of. I need N45,000 to pay some fees for my child and I also had to take care of my rent because I have a quit notice to leave my house in July. I was actually supposed to swallow the drugs but I was too scared to do so.“I then decided on my own to hide them instead in my private parts because I was scared I would die if I ingested the drugs. I have heard such things happen. Although it was difficult for me to walk, I had to do my best because there is no one else to take care of my children.”
In his reaction, the chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, described the incident as disturbing. “Apart from the quantity of drugs caught with her, her route is a new development in drug trafficking. Drug barons now adopt a relay approach to drug trafficking. They wanted to use her to take the drug to another African country before using an indigene of that country to take the drug to other continents, where the profit is higher. We are not oblivious of their moves and we are prepared to nip them in the bud,” he said.
According to the agency, no suspect has ever inserted such a large quantity of drugs in her private part since the establishment of the NDLEA in 1989. The suspect, who is a graduate of accounting from a South-West university, lives at Ijoko in Ogun State and is a native of Lagos Island in Lagos State. She will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
Nigerian Girls arrested for prostitution to be deported from Denmark
31 illegal Nigerian Girls in Copenhagen, Denmark were all arrested on prostitution on Thursday morning, rounded up in a police sweep of Istedgage, Vesterbro district of the city.
20 other suspects fled the scene and evaded capture during the raid. Those caught were charged with holding false residency permits, working without a premit and vagrancy. The women will be counselled by social workers trained in dealing with trafficking victims while their immigration statuses are verified, and are scheduled to appear in court over the next few days.
There has been an increase in African prostitutes in the city, which, thanks to legal prostitution in the country, has drawn an increasing number of immigrant prostitutes that Kjeld Farcinsen of the Copenhagen Police decscribed as “increasingly aggressive.”
“When our undercover officers approach them, the women make no attempt to hide the fact that they are offering sex for money,” Farcinsen told Politiken newspaper.
Farcinsen went on to say that the city’s police will be conducting more night raids in the coming weeks, in hopes of catching more illegal prostitutes.
Prostitution is legal in Denmark and carefully monitored, but non-residents are not allowed to engage in the profession. Nigerians form the largest contingent of Africans working in the trade.

Falana, who was on an Arik Air Flight W3 271, said the plane stayed in the air for an extra 30 minutes after it approached Abuja from Lagos because the airspace was closed.
“Having regards to the June 3, 2012 Dana plane crash in Lagos, which killed all the 153 passengers and crew on board, as well as 10 other persons in their homes, I was subjected to unwarranted mental and psychological torture,” he said. “Most other passengers on board were equally traumatised as the Arik plane was forced to hover in the air for 25 minutes.
When the plane eventually landed, I was reliably informed that there had been a restriction of movement at the airport for over one hour. In the process, the fundamental right of hundreds of people to freedom of movement was violated by the airport authorities at the instance of the said Very Important Personality.”
In a letter he sent to the Ministry of Aviation, Falana demanded to know the identity of the said VIP so as to enable him institute legal action against the person. “In the light of the foregoing I am compelled to request you to furnish me with the name of the said Very Important Personality to enable me to sue him for endangering the lives of over 150 passengers,” the letter read.
This request, he said, is made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 which has imposed a duty on all public officers to make requested information available to members of the public.
“Take notice; that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request within seven days of the receipt of this letter, I shall not hesitate to apply for an order of mandamus at the Federal High Court with a view to compelling you to disclose the identity of the said Very Important Personality forthwith,” he stated.

Pope calls for end to attacks on Christians in Nigeria
The Pope at his weekly general audience on Wednesday expressed his concern on the persistent suicide and bomb attacks on Churches saying, “I am following with deep concern the news from Nigeria, where terrorist attacks are continuing especially against Christians.”
A number of Churches have been attacked across the states in northern Nigeria with untold number of deaths. Such suicide attacks have continued unabated in the last three weeks, killing people during the Church service.
The Pontiff appealed for calm, urging the perpetrators to stop killing the innocent. “I appeal to those responsible for the violence to immediately stop the spilling of the blood of many innocents.”
He also appealed to all groups in the country to shun “the path of vendetta” and work towards building a peaceful society where people were free to practice their religion.
Reprisals attacks in Kaduna on Tuesday, following the bomb attack on three churches in Zaria, has led to the death of dozens while gun feuds in Yobe state, since Monday has also claimed a number of lives.

UNILAG Students & Staff Remain Steadfast in their Stand against the Institution’s Name Change – ‘UNILAG FOREVER’
"UNILAG FOREVER’
Academic activities at University of Lagos resumed on Monday after a three-week closure following a series of protests over President Goodluck Jonathan’s announcement of the institution’s name change.
However, the members of staff and students have not relented in their stand against the name change from University of Lagos to Moshood Abiola University of Lagos.
To reiterate their stand, the institution introduced a new badge to discredit the renaming of the institution after the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Abiola by the Federal Government.
The badge, which carries the inscription, “UNILAG FOREVER,” was distributed to members of staff and students at a news conference by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday.
According to the chairman of the University of Lagos branch of the union, Dr. Oghenekaro Ogbinaka, the badge is one of the steps being taken by the union to work against the renaming of institution.
“We have mapped out plans to persistently reject the renaming of the University of Lagos. The renaming of the University of Lagos after 50 years of existence is one of such actions that have been taken to an absurd level.”
He further said that government’s action would be challenged legally, while describing the pronouncement of President Goodluck Jonathan as a wrong and immoral decision intended to gain cheap popularity.
Following the submission of the amended bill that set up the University of Lagos to the National Assembly by the president recently, the academics vowed to storm the public hearing to thwart the decision of the government.
The badge which is already being worn by staff and students of the institution has created a charged atmosphere on the campus as staff and students go about with renewed determination against the name change.

Seven Fake Pastor arrested in Kogi for Scam deliverance
Beware who your Pastor is .....
Every business seems to have taken a desperate dimension, even with the name of God, the unimaginable is happening, reports says "Kogi State Police Command has paraded seven persons for allegedly posing as bishop, pastors and prophets during a revival programme in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State.
Those paraded include Bishop Bamidele Abraham of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja and Pastors Chucks Ingalis Kelvin, Chinedu Okosisi, Samson Prince, Osita Chuckwu, Samuel Ike and Nnenanaya Anthony Ikechukwu. They were said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State into Lokoja.
State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Kastina who paraded the suspects said they were arrested while conducting ‘deliverance’ for people at a revival programme organised by one of them in Lokoja.
According to Muhammed, Bishop Bamidele who is the pastor-in-charge of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja was said to have contacted Pastor Chuks from Port Har-court to help raise money for his book launch.
Sources said Chucks, who was an expert in such ventures came with members of his team, some of who acted like mermaid; deaf and dumb persons while others claimed to have been afflicted with other sicknesses during the revival to sway the sympathy of those in attendance.
However, a member of the congregation who felt uncomfortable with the way the pastors were conducting the deliverance, reported them to the police which moved in swiftly and arrested the suspects.
One of the suspects, Pastor Chuks, however defended his action saying, “This is not robbery, its pure professionalism. Every profession has its own way of surviving. The police have their own way, the lawyers have their own way; even you journalists have your own way; what I did is pure business and survival instinct.’’
Also, Pastor Osita Chukwu who posed as mermaid said she was promised N16, 000 while leaving Port Harcout to Lokoja but they only got N1, 000 pending the conclusion of the botched revival programme."

According to what we gathered, documents of the land indicated that the said land which is situated at Central Area close to ThisDay Dome was issued and allocated to the NGO (WAYEF) on 19th February 2010, however in a shocking way, another document which was dated August 11, 2008 emerges from the FCT government, showing that the same plot of land has been indeed allocated earlier to the African First Ladies Peace Centre. However, the said organization being funded by Turai, we learnt indeed seek a legal redress and filed a suit at an Abuja High court which also was to challenge the deeds f the FCT administration, which has turned a blind eye to the ongoing construction. However, in a recent ruling, which was delivered by Justice Peter Affen, we gathered that an injunction which ordered the FCT to hold back all parties from any further activities at the site was given.
However, the former 1st lady was said to be baffled when after only two weeks of the said injunction was issued, people working for the African First Ladies Peace Centre has started work again on the crisis ridden land which now compel counsel to Turai to as a matter of urgency filed contempt proceedings against the FCT Minister Senator Bala Mohammed and also the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke; Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS); and the Federal Capital Territory Administration were joined in the suit.

In spite of the said payments the land was however revoked by the FCT and even though the land C of O of August 2008 which was given to the African First Ladies Peace Centre had specified that the land was to be used only for ‘‘public institution,’’ the centre is not listed in any official document as an agency, department or parastatal of the federal government, but according to the letter of revocation and which was dated November 2, 2011 and signed by one Mrs. Asma’u Mukhtar on behalf of the FCT Minister the land title was revoked ,“due to an overriding public interest.”

Deported ! Samklef Denied Entry Into The UK At Heathrow Airport
Music producer/artiste, Samklef’s manager has denied that the artiste, who was recently denied entry upon arrival in England, and subsequently deported, traveled to the U.K on a false claim.
The magazine wrote:
Encomium Magazine: We learnt you told immigration that you were on vacation and they eventually found out you came for shows without work permit. How true is it?
Samklef: Yes
However, Samklef’s manager is now denying this. In a chat with NET, he said ‘I don’t know where Encomium got their information from.’
He however admits Samklef, 26, was denied entry, and sent back from Heathrow arrival.
Samklef refused to have a conversation with us on this issue, passing the phone to his manager after initially picking it up himself.
According to the manager, “Samklef was once invited to the U.K for a show, but couldn’t attend due to logistics challenges on the part of the organizers. A few months later, he got another invitation and tried to travel on the visa issued him by the former company, but unknown to him, that company had reported him to immigration, accusing him of fraudulent activities, hence, he was sent back to Nigeria.”
However, he claims everything has been settled since then, and “all is now well”.
No word yet on when the hit-maker, who celebrated the arrival of his first baby in March, few months after his wedding to Yvonne, is planning to return.

Crash of DANA Air Flight 9J 992 on Sunday, June 3, 2012
It is with a very heavy heart that we, the Dana group family join friends, colleagues, relations, families and the entire Nigerian nation to mourn victims of the ill-fated Dana Air, flight 9J 992, with Registration Number 5N-RAM, from Abuja that crashed at Iju- Shaga, a Lagos suburb as the aircraft made to touch down at the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2, Lagos. The tragic loss of all the 146 passengers on board and the crew including; 1 Dana Air Flight Engineer, 2 Pilots and 4 Cabin Crew and families who were in their houses at the time of the accident is the most traumatic experience for members of families, relations, the Dana group the Lagos State Government and the country at this critical period of the year.
Though the lives of some of Nigeria’s best and brightest have been cut short as a result of the incidence, we are deeply touched by the sorrows of many whose dreams, family prospects and expectations have been terminated.
At this point, much words or rhetoric would not do much in healing the wounds and pains of those affected directly by the unfortunate incidence; it is our hope that the Almighty God, who sees all and knows the end from the beginning, would provide even better succour and fortitude for the bereaved to bear their losses.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the affected. We also want Nigerians to know that we do not place people above money hence, we are more concerned here with lives than any other activities or losses we have encountered as a result of the crash.
Presently, we are working with various investigative organs of the regulatory bodies to find the rout cause of the crash. Already, the black had been recovered and we hope to share information on what happened in no distant time. We are also working with families of the deceased and those who are presently receiving treatment at the hospital. Our management have been at both the site and hospital to addressed issues with families of the deceased even as plans are on to address issues with the statement government and immediate community where the incident took place.
Our Insurance companies are working round the clock to find tune processes and once there is the green light, all claims regarding all lives lost, injuries and properties will be adequately addressed.
In the interim, we have set up a crisis management unit at the Dana Air office, MMA 2, Lagos for enquiries of any kind. The general public and the media can direct all enquiries to ….. , while a toll free line will soon be opened to address all enquiries.
In accordance with international protocol governing aviation accident investigations, all information about the investigation will come from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Dana Air will however provide information relating to the flight itself and updates on steps being taken.
It will also be pertinent to say that at Dana Air, we place a high premium on safety and we adhere strictly to the maintenance schedule of all our aircrafts as prescribed by the manufacturers, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. More detailed and scheduled checks are, however, carried out at MRO facilities abroad.
As a matter of fact, that particular aircraft had its last 400-hourly check (A-Check) only in May 30, 2012 while the statutory annual maintenance (C-Check) is not due until September 2012. The Certificate of Airworthiness issued by the NCCA after the last C-Check was still very valid as at the time of the incident.
We deeply regret the incidence and hope Nigerians would join us in rebuilding to the best of our ability all that has been lost as a result of the crash.
Once again, we at Dana Air extend our profoundest condolences.
Jacky Hathiramani
Chief Executive Officer
