Rapper, Soulja Boy sentenced to 240 days in jail for violating probation

American rapper, Soulja Boy has been sentenced to 240 days in jail for violating probation on a firearms charge.

A Van Nuys Superior Court judge in Californiaon Tuesday sentenced the rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, to 240 days in jail and 265 days of community service for violating the terms of his probation on a 2014 firearms charge. He was also credited with 40 days of time served.

According to the judge, he was considering a term of two-years in jail for his latest arrest, which included possession of ammunition and submission of bogus compliance records for community service.

'It really shows a lack of commitment to being on probation and a lack of respect to the court and the probation department,' the judge told the Chicago native in a video posted by TMZ.

Authorities claim Soulja forged paperwork to show community service that he didn't actually fulfill.

Police also found ammunition at his home, in response to a call from a woman who claimed he had held her hostage in his garage in February, and the terms of his probation from his 2014 firearms arrest strictly forbid him from possessing any guns or ammunition.

Many feared killed in Lagos train accident

At least four persons were feared killed after a train crushed a tricycle in Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday.    The incident occurred around 6:45am at Iju Ishaga, a Lagos suburb.

It was gathered the tricycle carrying passengers had attempted to cross the railway when it got trapped and was eventually crushed by the locomotive train.

Electrician electrocuted after a mistake in Rivers State

 An electrician lost his life while working on a transformer, on Wednesday, in Eliozu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. 

According to an eyewitness, the deceased had forgotten to remove the transformer fuses before proceeding to work on the electricity pole, only for power to be restored and electrocuted him.

Nigerian man born in UK, Michael Adebowale wants to return to Nigeria from UK to serve the rest of his 45-year sentence in 'Lagos' Kirikiri jail'

Despite being born in Britain, one of Lee Rigby’s killers is reportedly making a bid to serve the rest of his sentence in a Nigerian jail with a VIP wing. • 37-year-old Michael Adebowale, who is serving a 45 year jail term for the 2013 murder, was born in Britain but has Nigerian parents. He is currently behind bars in HMP Wakefield, but he is believed to be seeking a prisoner-swap deal. •

The Sun reports that he plans to seek a transfer to Lagos' Kirikiri jail where then-Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, agreed to pay for a new £700,000 wing in 2014. . • A source told the newspaper: “Michael hates Wakefield. It’s stuffed full of lags who see him as a top target. He thinks he can spend the rest of his sentence in Africa.” •

The Sun also reported that Adebowale has written to immigration experts asking for advice. But it is thought that his bid would fail because he was not born in Nigeria. • He and his friend, Michael Adebolajo hacked Mr Rigby, 25, to death by his barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, in 2013.

Nigerian Immigration Service begins issuance of new passport with 10-year validity

The new passport booklet with 10-year validity is available  at its headquarters in Abuja. The new booklet will be available in Ikoyi on June 3; Alausa, Lagos on July 8; and London on July 29, 2019. The enhanced polycarbonate booklet with 64 pages, which was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 15, 2019, was embedded with the National Identity Number and costs N70,000.

 Conducting journalists round the passport office in Abuja on Monday, the NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Sunday James, said the new booklet was part of a comprehensive passport reform approved by the Federal Government to improve the quality and security of the travel document as well as to reduce incidence of damage, counterfeit, and forgery. He explained that it was compulsory for passport applicants to have a NIN, adding that the NIS management had set up a desk at the passport office where individuals can register for the NIN. James stated, “the National Identity Number is compulsory for all applicants to the new document.

President Buhari of Nigeria donates $500,000 to Guineau Bissau for elections

President Buhari has approved the donation of $500,000 to the government of Guinea Bissau.

According to a series of tweets on the verified Twitter handle of the Presidency @NGRPresident, President Buhari who is also the chairman of ECOWAS, made the donations in response to an urgent request for assistance by the government of Guinea Bissau towards the country’s election.



President Buhari also donated 350 units of electoral kits, 10 motorcycles, five Hilux vans, and two light trucks to the country

President Buhari offers employment, and Doctorate scholarships to 168 ex-corps members

President Buhari has given automatic employment to 168 ex-corps members and also scholarships up to Doctorate level in Nigerian universities of their choice.

The automatic employment was presented to the ex-corps members at the combined 2015/2016/2017 President’s NYSC Honours Award held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja last night April 26th.

Represented at the ceremony by the Vice President,Yemi Osinbajo, Presidnet Buhari said the awardees would be absorbed into the Federal Civil Service.

15 ex-corps members who suffered disability during their service year were also recognised under the NYSC Hope Alive programme. There was also the National Council for Women Affairs Award to three best female awardees.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Osinbajo said

“The fact that they have gone through these harrowing personal injuries and are still determined to engage the future with hope and confidence is proof that they will still experience the joys of great success and fulfillment. To all of today’s honorees, let me make it clear that you are not just the future of this country, but also its present. You must all see yourselves as the leaders that you are; but leadership comes with responsibilities and continuous sacrifice. The successes you have achieved and are being rewarded for today, should inspire you to even greater feats, in your various spheres of influence. I therefore charge you all to continue to be the light for others to follow, whilst also seeing yourselves as lifelong ambassadors of the NYSC.

In line with our policy of encouraging and rewarding excellence among our youth, I hereby announce the immediate employment into the Federal Civil Service of all the Award winners and beneficiaries of the NYSC Hope Alive Programme. Couple caught with a baby hidden inside their bag in Port Harcourt

A couple believed to be kidnappers, escaped being lynched by a mob in Port harcourt, Rivers State after they were apprehended with a stolen baby hidden inside the wife's bag recently.

The couple were apprehended during a stop and search operation by police officers in the state.

They are currently in police custody and are being interrogated at the police command headquarters.

Esther Abimbola Ajayi, popularly known as Iya Adura, the founder of a Cherubim and Seraphim church in London gave Ailing Nigerian actor, Alabi Yellow a sum of N10 million for his medical treatment.

The Veteran Yoruba actor Dayo Akinpelu, popularly known as Alabi Yellow, has received monetary help from a popular Nigerian reverend. Newsmen had reported that the 62-year-old actor was battling for his life. It was gathered that the actor received a sum of N10 million for his medical treatment from the general overseer of Love of Christ Generational Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Clapham, London, Reverend mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi.

The actor is currently  suffering from stroke.

American movie director, John Singleton, is in a coma after suffering a major stroke

American movie director, John Singleton,  is in a coma at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a major stroke last week.

The 51-year-old director's condition was revealed in a court filing Thursday from his mother, Shelia Ward, who is requesting she be appointed his temporary conservator to make medical and financial decisions for him.

According to court documents, the 'Boyz n the Hood' director suffered a "major stroke" eight days ago. Singleton's family had previously announced that he had a stroke on April 17, but there had been no details revealed about the seriousness of his condition.

In 1991, Singleton became the first black filmmaker as well as the youngest at just 23 years old to be nominated for an Oscar for "Boyz n the Hood." His other films include "Poetic Justice," starring Janet Jackson, and his recent projects include the TV series "Snowfall."

Man rejects free house offer, opts for borehole for his community.

 A gateman has rejected a house offer as a parting gift from his boss whom he served for 25 years. He, instead, requested that a borehole be sunk for his community which he said lacked water.

 Musa Usman, from Giljimmi, a Fulani settlement in Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, lives with his family in a thatched house. Usman, who had served the Indian national, Mr. V. Verghese, who is also the Managing Director of a pharmaceutical company, Jawa International Limited in Lagos, for 25 years, left the service in order to reunite with his family in the village.

 When Usman was leaving, Verghese offered to build a house for him to appreciate his diligence while he was his gateman. People in Usman’s community were previously trekking a long distance for water. Speaking at the commissioning of the borehole, Verghese said his decision for the parting gift was borne out of a high degree of honesty exhibited by Usman while he was working with him. He said:

“Musa has served me diligently for 25 years. We would travel to India and leave our house under his care and behold, we would meet everything intact. He is indeed an honest Nigerian.” Usman, thanked Verghese for the gesture, saying he had no regret substituting the house offer with community borehole.

An MP in Australia has addressed Parliament while breastfeeding her baby, admitting that she moved a motion only moments before her daughter “moved her own motion”.

 In a first for the nation, Larissa Waters, a Greens MP, addressed the chamber – she was speaking about black lung disease, a condition affecting coal miners - while feeding her baby, a 14-week-old named Alia Joy.

 The three-month-old previously made history in May after she became the first baby to be breastfed in Australia’s Parliament and has become a regular attendee at Australia’s Senate, or Upper House.
 The MP’s decision to speak while feeding appeared to be warmly welcomed and was greeted with smiles in the chamber.

Airport Cartel Planting Drugs In Passengers Luggage Arrested

 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has nabbed an airport cartel which specializes in planting drugs in passengers’ luggage. According to the Chairman of the NDLEA, Col. Abdallah (rtd).
The cartel was uncovered after detectives embarked on investigation of a Nigerian lady identified as Zainab Aliyu, who was accused of entering Saudi Arabia with tramadol. Zainab was arrested by Saudi Arabia Police on December 26, 2018, shortly after arriving for Lesser Hajj, over allegations that a luggage, bearing her name tag, contained the unlawful substance.

 However, while in detention, the NDLEA received a petition from her father, seeking a probe of his daughter’s ordeal. Consequently, the NDLEA Commander in charge of MAKIA launched an investigation, which culminated in the arrest and arraignment of seven staff of the airport. The accused are Idris Umar Shehu, Sanni Suleiman, Nuhu Adamu, Rhoda Adetunji, Udosen Itoro Henry and Sanni Hamisu. The cartel had planted the tramadol-bearing luggage on Zainab.

 It was further established that Zainab, who had only a luggage, was not aware that a second bag had been labelled in her name. The implication of this discovery by NDLEA is that many Nigerians arrested and executed for drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia might be innocent.
