Kwara Government explains Why they demolished old peoples home (Ile Arugbo).
“The attention of the Committee on the Review of Sales of Kwara State Government Properties from 1999 to Date has been drawn to the various publications on the decision of government in respect of the land earmarked for the construction of the State Secretariat (now commonly referred to as Ile Arugbo).
“The issue of the land in question came under the terms of reference of the committee which considered several other properties of government and submitted its recommendations in July, 2019.
“As was the case with all the properties looked into by the Committee, the committee’s recommendations are based strictly on available records.
“Based on the available records, the Committee did not see proof of any payment nor an approved Right of Occupancy,” Ajadi said.
According to him, the committee discovered that there is foundation on the land with erected columns at varying areas of the larger segment of the land.
“The Committee also noted that the land in question was also a part of a larger parcel of land, part of which has been developed into a Civil Service Clinic and Secretariat complex now housing the State Ministry of Finance, among others.
“With emphasis, from all records available, there is no “Right of Occupancy” or Certificate of Occupancy” available to the private firm which the land was allocated in principle.
“There is also no application nor receipt of payments for the land. Where, therefore, is the right to a claim to this land?”
“In view of the above reasons, the Committee is convinced to recommend that the land be repossessed and put to the original use it was meant for,”
Ajadi noted that the use of ‘Ile arugbo’ to describe the land in question gave an erroneous impression of a structured building where old people were catered for, adding “this is not so”.
“What is on ground until the physical reclamation by government was a shed used by the late Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki to keep people waiting to see him for political meetings.
“In essence, the house built and lived by the late Dr Olusola Saraki is intact, not touched or demolished by the Kwara State Government."
“A hospital is supposed to be a serene environment for welfare of patients; it is definitely not a political war centre where people make the loudest noise, fight, or found themselves enmeshed in commotion and fatal stampede which was the lot of that place..."
The building on the land opposite late Dr Olusola Saraki’s house in Ilorin was reclaimed by the government while the building on it, known as “Ile arugbo” (Old peoples home) was demolished.

He was last seen when the suspected insurgents forced him into a Toyota Hilux. Since then, we have not heard from him or his abductors,” he said. In separate appeals, three district heads, Ngida Kwache, Bello Ijeidi and Lawan Luka, representing Michika, Gulak and Koppa respectively, called for more troops in the communities located around Sambisa forest.

President Muhammadu Buhari Says Nigerians Must Stop Going Abroad For Medical Treatment
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday insisted that Nigerians can no longer afford to be going abroad for medical treatment. The President, made the declaration at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, during the inauguration and handover of completed projects to the management of the hospital.
“Nigerians have suffered so much going abroad for medical treatment. This is not good for us and it must stop, because we can’t afford it again,” Buhari stated. Represented by the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonaya Onu, the President lamented the devastating effects of flooding in the South-East geo-political zone, saying the intervention project would bring relief to the hospital, the state and its neighbours.
According to him, citing the project in Ebonyi State showed that an end has come to the era in the country where some parts of the Nigeria were neglected as a result of corruption and favouritism. He also stressed that the location of the project in major teaching hospitals across the country showed that no part of the country would be neglected again. He said: “We have paid very serious attention to the health of our people and will continue to do so.
The projects you celebrate their completion today were seriously affecting the workings of this teaching hospital. But today, we can say their completion have started helping to improve on the performance and welfare of both the staff and patients of this hospital. “I wish to use this medium to congratulate the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and his team in the Ecological Fund Office; the project contractor, Messrs Amayaro Nigeria Limited, as well as the project consultant, Messrs Kanode and Associates Limited, for their commitment to ensuring timely and speedy completion of the project.” It would be recalled that the President, who had prior to assuming office in 2015, pledged not seek medical attention abroad, had travelled to the United Kingdom for treatment on several occasions.
It is hoped that the President with this declaration, would make good his earlier pledge not to go abroad for medical attention, and in the process pay attention to the nation’s hospitals and medical facilities.

Christians enjoy more holidays in Nigeria~ Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)
“CAN claims it is being persecuted but fails to substantiate its allegation in concrete terms.
“However, the last holiday of Wednesday, January 1, 2020 which is an annual event has exposed CAN.
“Nigerian Christians enjoy the New Year holiday on January 1 every year even without asking for it because that was the arrangement made by the British colonial master. But CAN still claims ‘persecution’ even though it is placed at an advantaged position.
“Christians have five out of the eight holidays enjoyed by Nigerians. Muslims have three only. Yet CAN claims persecution.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year Day, Easter Monday and Good Friday are all for Christians.
We dare CAN to deny it. Are these not concrete privileges enjoyed by Christians?
“CAN knows that it is the Muslims who are denied certain fundamental human rights but it is determined to maintain the status quo."

PROSTITUTION IS LEGAL IN NIGERIA RULES HIGH COURT JUDGE
It came as a rude awakening to many when Justice Binta Nyako of the High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, December 19, 2019, gave a landmark ruling which showed that commercial sex work was not illegal in Nigeria.
In her ruling, Justice Nyako awarded damages to 16 ladies who were detained by the police for prostitution in 2017. This was the first time that any Nigerian court would be ruling on the legality or otherwise of sexual work. Babatunde Jacob, a lawyer who represented the women shedding further light on the ruling to the BBC, explained that, the court upheld that the rights of his clients were violated by security agents when they broke into their homes accusing them of being sex workers. It is widely believed by legal practitioners that this ruling by the high court will have a far reaching effect in the country as the arrest of commercial sex workers by security agencies is very common.
Over 60 women were placed under arrest in May 2019 for prostitution. This ruling has also once again exposed some members of the security agencies as having very little or no knowledge of the laws they are supposed to be protecting.

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA AT NEW YEAR 2020
My Dear Compatriots, NIGERIA’S DECADE Today marks a new decade. It is a time of hope, optimism and fresh possibilities. We look forward as a nation to the 2020s as the opportunity to build on the foundations we have laid together on security, diversification of our economy and taking on the curse of corruption.
These are the pledges on which I have been twice elected President and remain the framework for a stable, sustainable and more prosperous future. Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. I salute the commitment of the millions who voted in peace last February and of those leaders who contested for office vigorously but fairly, submitting to the authority of the electorate, the Independent National Electoral Commission and judicial process.
I understand very well the frustrations our system has in the past triggered. I will be standing down in 2023 and will not be available in any future elections. But I am determined to help strengthen the electoral process both in Nigeria and across the region, where several ECOWAS members go to the polls this year. As Commander-in-Chief, my primary concern is the security of the nation and the safety of our citizens. When I assumed office in May 2015 my first task was to rally our neighbours so that we could confront Boko Haram on a coordinated regional basis. Chaos is not a neighbour any of us hope for.
We have been fighting on several fronts: violent extremists, cultists and organised criminal networks. It has not been easy. But as we are winning the war, we also look to the challenge of winning the peace, the reconstruction of lives, communities and markets. The North East Development Commission will work with local and international stakeholders to help create a new beginning for the North East.
The Federal Government will continue to work with State Governors, neighbouring states and our international partners to tackle the root causes of violent extremism and the networks that help finance and organise terror. Our security forces will receive the best training and modern weaponry, and in turn will be held to the highest standards of professionalism, and respect for human rights. We will use all the human and emerging technological resources available to tackle kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery. The new Ministry of Police Affairs increased recruitment of officers and the security reforms being introduced will build on what we are already delivering.
