Details on how a bus ridder Okuwabamise went missing on BRT

Police in Lagos and the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit are searching for a BRT driver in whose bus a 22-year-old lady was allegedly kidnapped.

The alleged victim, Miss Oluwabamise Ayanwola, works as a Fashion Designer at Chevron Estate, Ajah and spent weekends at Ota, Ogun State, with her sister.

She was returning to Ota from Ajah on Saturday, Feb. 26 when she boarded a BRT bus with number 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7 p.m. at Chevron Bus-Stop.

Sensing danger as the bus did not pick any other passenger at subsequent bus stops, Oluwabamise engaged a friend using voice notes on her phone.

The voice notes showed that the bus driver said he liked Oluwabamise and asked for her name and other details.

She told her friend to pray for her as she became suspicious of the bus driver and in response, the friend told her to alight at Oworonsoki bus stop, way before Oshodi bus stop.

Oluwabamise also sent a video to her friend showing how dark it was in the bus and said: “there are three men and one woman in the bus. The woman is sitting at the back. That’s the number of the bus in case. Please pray for me.’’

That was the last that was heard from Oluwabamise.

NAN gathered that Oluwabamise’s family held a meeting with the Lagos Bus Service Ltd. (LBSL), operators of BRT on Wednesday, March 2 and the latter assured that efforts were being made to track down the driver.

It was learnt that the driver of the bus had not been seen and also the guarantor was nowhere to be found.

Mr Johnson Omilana, a family member who reported at Akinpelu Police Station said Oluwabamise had not been seen since she left Ajah on Saturday.

“We met with the BRT general manager and about three other management staff who told us that the matter was being shared on social media and that might jeopardise police investigation.

“The BRT management told us that they were working with the police to make sure the missing girl is rescued.

“The management also told us that they do not employ drivers directly and that the consultants involved are being sanctioned because of the incident.’’ Omilana said.

The Managing Director LBSL, Mr Idowu Oguntona, did not respond to calls and messages on updates on the incident.

Court Details on Baba Ijesha Nollywood Actor who allegedly defiled a young girl

Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James (alias Baba Ijesha) on Friday told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that comedienne Damilola Adekoya (alias Princess) was his former lover.

Reports have it that the actor testified as to the second defence witness at his trial for alleged defilement of the 14-year-old foster daughter of Princess.

Led in evidence by defence counsel, Mr Dada Awosika (SAN), Baba Ijesha described the nature of the relationship he allegedly had with Princess.

“We were dating, my lord; she always slept in my room. We slept together, I touched her, she touched me, she kissed me and I kissed her,” he said.

Earlier, the defendant told the court how he allegedly met the comedienne.

He said he received a phone call from Princess while he was an on-air personality on Radio Lagos and LTV 8.

“She said she was my number one fan and she asked me to promote her on my programme. That is how we started.

“She told me she wanted to join the Yoruba section because the English section is bad, Ali Baba is bad, Buchi is bad. She also asked me to introduce her to my producer,” he said.

The defendant said that in the course of the relationship, he met Princess’s mother and she gave him her nickname which is “Mama Larry”.

He said that Princess’s mother advised him to take care of her daughter and that though her daughter was stubborn, he could handle her.

“I promised to promote her, I cannot allow anything to affect her career, I cannot hurt a woman, I’ve never done it in my life,” he said.

Narrating what transpired in 2014, the day he allegedly sexually molested Princess’s foster daughter with a car key, he said that in October 2014, a day after he returned from visiting his wife in the United Kingdom, he received a phone call from Princess.

He said the comedienne informed him that she was battling ill-health and needed some fruits.

According to him, he bought some fruits and took them to her home.

“Immediately I opened the door to her house, I saw her half-naked and I told her that I was outside, your fruit is inside the car.

“A few minutes after, the young girl (Princess’s foster daughter) came to pick the fruits from the car; she even met some area boys asking me for money. I gave her the fruits and she left,” he said.

Under cross-examination by the Lagos State Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dr Jide Martins, the defendant denied defiling the minor with his car key during a visit to her foster mother’s home in 2014.

He, however, admitted knowing the child since she was seven years old, adding that he had visited Princess’ home seven years ago.

“Princess is not my benefactor, she is the one who benefitted from me,” he said.

Baba Ijesha, who at a point broke down in tears during the cross-examination, said that the evidence he gave in court in his defence was not an afterthought.

He described Princess as a jilted lover, saying that much evidence existed to show that he and Princess were in a relationship, though such evidence was not tendered in court.

Ogun Police Spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said the man and the woman did not die under the burning flame of romance inside the car, explaining that it was a case of murder first and suicide later.

The Police Spokesman added the man had visited the deceased woman, who is believed to be his girlfriend, somewhere in Lagos before the two died one after the other.

Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Said the corpses had been evacuated from the car and deposited in a hospital morgue.

"The two did not die while having sex". What happened was that the girl in question happened to be a girlfriend to that Man"

" He rented an apartment for her somewhere in Lagos. He went there to visit her." We don't know what transpired between them, but we learnt that he hit the woman on the head and she slumped.

" He carried the lifeless body of the woman in his vehicle". People in that neighborhood ran to Ilaje Police Station in Bariga to report.

" But he drove off straight to his house at Orimerunmu. He dropped a suicide note, informing his wife that he has killed somebody".

" He told his wife not to bother looking for him, asking her to take care of the children. Then he left the house."

" He drove and parked near NASFAT area and he committed suicide there. We saw a container of Sniper in the vechicle, which suggested that he drank sniper ( an insecticide). He wound up the glasses and died in the vechicle."

TRIBUTE TO PASTOR E.A. ADEBOYE BY VICE PRESIDENT OSINBAJO

A TRIBUTE TO PASTOR E.A. ADEBOYE AT 80 was shared of Facebook as follows.

Dolapo and I are honoured to write this tribute to Daddy on his 80th Birthday.

Very few leaders will ever have the geographical and spiritual reach of influence that Pastor E.A. Adeboye has. He is neither the Pope nor the leader of the free world, but he heads a denomination that since his assumption of office as its General Overseer, has established churches in over 198 countries and territories of the world.

He was, as early as 2008, listed by Newsweek, as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Earlier in 1998, the Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Lekki, Lagos, was reported to be one of the largest Christian gatherings ever and every year the RCCG Convention and Congresses have live crowds breaking that record. Through the years, miracles of every kind have been commonplace in his ministry.

But the moral of the story is not in these achievements but in how his behaviour has remained unaffected by them.

It was Mummy G.O. who said to us once, “see how God uses your father as a smokescreen to do the miracles He wants to do”.

This realization, that “apart from Him, you can do nothing” and that “ no one can receive anything that is not given to him by God”, probably explains why a man so spiritually and intellectually gifted, so revered, so respected by the high and low alike, would still be so genuinely humble, so self-effacing and so unfailingly respectful even of his subordinates.

His impeccable integrity, his measured speech and action at all times, his life of many challenges, many wars, his courage, his unshaken faith, his deep love for God, through phenomenal achievements and numbing personal tragedy are all together the most persuasive evangelical message to all even those of other faiths, of the grace and mercy of God in the life of the Saved.

For us, we are extremely proud that this man of extraordinary faith, courage and humility is one we can call our daddy.

Daddy, Happy 80th Birthday! As your days, so shall your strength, wisdom and favour with God in Jesus’ name. Amen

The War in Ukraine will be affecting bread in Nigeria

The price of bread, one of the most commonly eaten staples in most Nigerian homes is set to rise if the current Russian-Ukrainian war persists.

Russia is the world’s largest exporter of wheat, accounting for more than 18 per cent of international exports.

The downside to the war is that if supply from Russia is distorted for whatever reason, Nigeria could be faced with further surging wheat prices in its local market as a result of the supply gap, which could lead to an increase in the price of some other by-products of wheat, such as bread, wheat meal amongst others.

The price of bread was increased by more than 80 per cent between 2020 and 2021.

In 2020, the Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) had hinted at a 50 per cent increase in the price of bread citing the surging cost of raw materials and COVID-19 impact.

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), wheat is the third most widely consumed grain in the country, with its local production only accounting for just 1% of the 5 to 6 million metric tons consumed annually, with the country relying on importation to meet local demands.

The demand-supply gap has necessitated the spending of over $2 billion on wheat importation annually, representing the second-highest contributor to the country’s food import bill.

A cursory glance at the foreign trade report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria imported goods valued at N813.19 billion (over $2bn annually) between January and September 2021, representing 3.7% of Nigeria’s total import in the same period.

A further look at the data shows that Nigeria imported durum wheat worth over N128.1 billion in the 9-month period of 2021, while it recorded a N144.14 billion durum wheat import in the previous year.

Also, Nigeria imports different types of seafood from Russia, some of which include mackerel, meat, herrings, blue whiting, other fish, all in frozen form.

Kunle Poly Sent To Kirikiri Prison Over Idumota Clashes

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba axis of Lagos has ruled that a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW), Adekunle Lawal, popularly called Kunle Poly, be remanded at the Kirikiri correctional centre pending when allegations leveled against him on the clashes that occurred in Idumota would be determined.

The judge said that Kunle Poly should be remanded at the centre, as allegations brought against him on the clashes that claimed lives and resulted in the destruction of property were yet to be proven untrue.

Kunle Poly was remanded on Monday during the court proceedings, barely two days after the Nigerian Police granted him bail following expiration of a 30-day custody appeal granted to the law enforcement agency.

BREAKING: Peace Talks Between Russia And Ukraine ends With No Breakthrough

The talks took place after Russian forces bombarded residential areas in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv

The first round of Ukraine-Russia talks aimed at ending the fighting between Moscow and its neighbour have concluded with no immediate agreements.

The talks took place near the Belarus-Ukraine border on Monday as Russian troops continued their attack on Ukrainian cities – including the second-largest, Kharkiv – on the fifth day of Russia’s invasion.

An aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin said talks with Ukrainian officials lasted nearly five hours.

Vladimir Medinsky, who headed the Russian delegation, said the two sides “found certain points on which common positions could be foreseen”. Another round of talks was agreed to, Medinsky said.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, gave few details except to say that the talks focused on a possible ceasefire and that a second round could take place “in the near future”.
