The Ansar ud deen Society of Nigeria has suspending religious activities in its mosques across Nigeria due to the ongoing coronavirus. . The society, particularly popular among Muslims in South-west Nigeria, and with scores of mosques across Nigeria, stated this in a statement by its spokesperson, Muhammed Hassan.

 ,"RE -SUSPENSION OF MOSQUE ACTIVITIES DUE TO CORONA VIRUS(COVID-19) The National Executive Council, The Trustees and the National Council of Missioners , with heavy hearts and a deep sense of responsibility, hereby announce the suspension of all Mosque activities particularly weekly Asalatu, Jum’ah prayers and any gathering of up to fifty people. The suspension of activities shall take effect immediately until further notice. This decision was informed by the menacing spread of the novel corona virus(COVID-19) and Fatwa by World Islamic bodies taking cognisance of the Islamic principles of ‘preservation of life’, ‘prevention of harm’, and ‘proactive response to impending danger’. The society shall abide by government recommendations and update members and mosque users of any change in the suspension decision.

 We acknowledge that many of our members and mosque users might find this unprecedented decision very uncomfortable, we should please be reassured that this is for the good of the community and it is in compliance with the Islamic response to epidemic pandemic. Italian that brought coronavirus to Nigeria now negative – Lagos State. The Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has confirmed the Italian who brought coronavirus to Nigeria now tests negative.

 He said this at a press conference on Thursday. According to him, the Italian will be tested one more time and will be released if he tests negative again. Coronavirus was first recorded in Nigeria on February 27 when the Italian businessman, who was on a visit to Lafarge Africa Plc, Ewekoro, Ogun State, was diagnosed with the disease and taken to Lagos State.

As part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Government says it will be closing down all public and private schools from Monday, 23rd March 2020.

In a statement released by the state Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, the state government said the move became necessary to prevent children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable to the pandemic.

It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitizers and observe high standards of personal hygiene. Children should be encouraged to remain at home. The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat.

The statement added that the Incident Command Centre, headed by the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is the Incident Commander, will continue to trace all contacts of the identified cases and encourages anyone who has information about suspected cases to report to the nearest hospital or call the emergency telephone numbers 08023169485, 08033565529, 08052817243 and 08023401214.

COVID-19: Enugu govt takes proactive steps, approves N330m, relocates state Isolation Centre to ESUT Teaching Hospital

The Enugu State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved the sum of three hundred and thirty million naira (N330m) to prevent and/or tackle the scourge of Coronavirus – COVID-19 in the state in case of any outbreak.

Briefing newsmen after a meeting with the EXCO to update it on the level of preparedness in case of any emergency that may arise from the COVID-19 outbreak, the state medical team led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, stated that the Council approved the immediate upgrade and relocation of the state Isolation Centre to ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu.

Dr. Agujiobi disclosed that the Council’s decision was based on the medical team’s recommendation and in line with the advice from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that Isolation Centres are best located within the Specialist Hospitals of the states for prompt and effective emergency response.

He explained that the relocation “will be more convenient, easier for patients who may have Coronavirus or suspected to have Coronavirus to be attended to by medical specialists promptly and timely”, adding that the patient will have access to “the X-Ray machines, the dialysis machine and other high tech machines domiciled in the Teaching hospital”.

The team leader, who appreciated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his efforts and effective leadership role in driving “not just the health sector but the entire sectors in Enugu State”, further disclosed that the Council considered and approved the procurement of more personal protective equipment, sanitizers, masks, respirators and all that are needed to aid the physicians manage their patients.

Dr. Agujiobi pointed out that the team requested for the procurement of full-fitted ambulances and incident vehicles to help respond to emergencies as they may arise, as well as release of funds for mass advocacy and enlightenment in every nook and cranny of the state, churches, markets and schools.

Said he: “In a couple of hours, all the radio stations in Enugu will be agog with jingles and everything that we need to know regarding the Coronavirus.” He also added that the Council equally approved that funds be made available so that the health workers will have the requisite training and pursue contact tracing of those who may be suspected or may turn out to be positive, “so that we don’t need to have anything lacking.”

 I honestly feel like this is a rip off because what then does my warranty cover? The plug maybe? How is this supposed to be sustainable to average people who probably saved their hard earned income to purchase your product? What are we supposed to do with no warranty on what happens to be the most expensive component of the product? No! This makes absolutely no sense to me. Anybody out there has had any unpleasant experience like mine with these companies and would like to talk about it? This is truly unacceptable and I believe needs to be spoken about.

Rescued 18-year-old girl want to go back to my Boko Haram husband

An 18-year-old girl, Asma’u Musa who was rescued from the dreaded Boko Haram enclave by men of the Nigerian Army, has brought a new dimension to love when she told the soldiers that she should be returned to her husband who is a senior member of the sect or she would kill herself.

A soldier who narrated her plight on the condition of anonymity, said that Asma’u has been giving them serious problems as she has refused to eat, take her bath or cooperate with those trying to debrief her.

“All she sings about has been that she should be returned to her husband or she would kill herself. We have tried to rehabilitate her to no avail. It is obvious she is madly in love with the man and does not care that he is a terrorist and a killer.

She was abducted two years ago by Boko Haram members when they raided her community in Borno State where over 50 people, including women and children were abducted.

According to her, she was married off to a Boko Haram commander against her will but the man showed her so much love and care that she fell in love with him and also imbibed the doctrines of the sect which she believes will lead her to paradise.

Asma’u says she does not care about her family any longer as her husband and her new found religion is all she cares for.

This guy was more or less a cousin to the Devil. His real name was Obioma Nwankwo, and he held Abia hostage for years, focusing his operations around Aba, while some of his boys held sway in parts of the capital Umuahia.

He was a specialist kidnapper and bank robber. Osisi ka Nkwu learned weapon handling under Ateke Tom during the militant era in Port Harcourt.

He later worked for a popular politician in Abia during the 2007 elections (name withheld), after the politician got tired of settling him, Osisi ka Nkwu took up arms to survive in the streets. One of his famous hobbies involved taking young beautiful girls who caught his fancy hostage and keeping them for his pleasure in his camp. Other of his infamous hobbies included robbing banks and buses filled with travellers either entering or leaving Aba. Who remembers the 2010 kidnap of school children in their school bus on the way to school? Osisi ka Nkwu led the criminal gang that accosted the bus on its way to the Abayi school Aba that Monday morning. He seized all the phones belonging to the teachers and driver onboard before taking the children away.

Their ransom was $130,000 (N46.8m in today's currency). The money was paid and Osisi ka Nkwu got more powerful. Traders got scared of going to the Ariaria market while parents got scared of sending their kids to school. Social life in Aba was at an all time low due to one man and his gang.

Ganduje dethroned Sanusi on Monday, and effort to Reconcile them was wasted

Following the protracted feud between Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Mr Sanusi, some Northern elders in December 2019 appointed Mr Abubakar and two APC governors to an 11-member reconciliation and resolution committee to find a lasting solution to the feud.

Mr Abubakar, who was the chairman of the committee, said it did its best by holding separate meetings with the Governor and the former Emir

He explained that after a meeting with the two parties, the committee left the Governor and the Emir to discuss.

The committee listed:
-Poor communication,
- New legislation (Kano state emirates council law, 2019),
- Sanusi’s public utterances, and '
- Appointment of new Emirs as major factors that fueled the crisis between the Governor and the deposed Emir.

The former military ruler said at the end of the exercise, his team submitted a report to President Buhari before he left the country. But he was not sure if “he (President Buhari) had intervened.

“After conclusion of the assignment, we realised that there was amicable resolution to the crisis. Surprisingly, this is what happened at last,” he said.

Asked by the interviewer whether the committee had achieved its mandate, he said,
“Well, I cannot say so in view of the latest development. In my view, all the committee’s efforts are wasted.”

On President Buhari’s role, he said:
“I can’t really say whether Buhari has a hand in the matter because I am currently not in Nigeria.

“But before I left the country, we submitted our report to him, and he expressed willingness to intervene in the matter in order to have amicable resolution, despite being a constitutional matter. I really don’t know if he had intervened.”

Nigeria bans those without Yellow card at the international airport amidst Coronavirus

As part of the measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, says henceforth, passengers without valid Yellow card can no longer be allowed to board flights at Nigeria international airports.

 The Yellow Fever card also called the International Health Certificate is an important document which is given to a person after getting a vaccine against Yellow Fever. In a statement released by its General Manager, Aeromedical Standards, Dr. Wilfred Haggai, the NCAA explained that decision to enforce the presentation of Yellow card is coming on the heels of the review of the operationalization of Nigeria point of entry policy on the prevention and control of cross border transmission of yellow fever and other diseases, particularly Coronavirus.

 The review of the policy has arisen because of the compelling priority of the ongoing entry screening at points of entry by Port Health Services for covid19. The entry screening of passengers due to COVID-19 outbreak will be prioritized by the port health services until the outbreak has been effectively contained. The NCAA has therefore called on all airlines to communicate the policy to their passengers. The policy review took effect on 11th March 2020”. ” All passengers coming to Nigeria who do not have a yellow card are to be allowed to board. When they arrive in Nigeria the Port Health Services will determine whether they require vaccination for Yellow fever or not,” the statement read

Gunmen attacked Nigerian Gospel musician Atorise

Nigerian gospel artiste, Lanre Teriba aka Atorise, has been attacked by unknown gunmen suspected in Lagos.

The incident happened on Saturday night at the Berger end of the Lagos/ Ibadan expressway while the singer was returning from an engagement. .

He escaped the attacked but he is seriously injured and currently on admission in an undisclosed hospital.
