POLICEMAN SHOOTS ERUWA POLY STUDENT

 



Students of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, Oyo state hit streets on Saturday to protest the alleged shooting of a fellow student of the Department of Business Administration, Akinsuyi Samuel by a Police officer.


According to reports, the victim was travelling to Ibadan on Friday alongside his friends in their personal vehicle when they were stopped by some police men and in the course of the exchange, one of the policemen fired a bullet through the door of the passenger’s seat right inside the car which hit the student's leg.


President of the Students Union of the institution, Musa Anuoluwapo Opeyemi said some of the union’s demands is that the officer who shot the innocent student must be arrested and dismissed from the Police force; a total stop to the unlawful harassment of students on the Ibadan-Eruwa way by Police officers and Samuel’s life must be safeguarded and his hospital bills paid by the Nigeria Police Force.


The affected student has been transferred to Ibadan from Awojobi Hospital Eruwa for proper treatment and the Area Commander and DPO, had promised to take responsibility of the medical care of the student.


Meanwhile, there was a peace meeting between Area Commander, DPO, the management of the institution led by the Ag. Rector Dr. Gbade Akinteye, Students’ Union President of the institution and other student activists from the state level.


In the meeting the Police disclosed that the culprit has been arrested and transfered to Ibadan as students representatives would meet him on Monday for identification.
