“There’s a few things going on with me medically that I haven’t told you about,” Johnson shares with fellow Love & Hip Hop: Miami cast member Michelle Pooch. “I’m not dying, [but] I do have a medical condition called fibroids.”
According to Azura Vascular Care, “Fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that grow in the uterine wall.” The masses can grow in clusters and can reach the size of a softball. Research shows that Black women are more prone to the condition, and 80 to 90 percent develop fibroids by the age of 50. They also experience severe symptoms that include anemia, pelvic pain and heavy menstruation.
Johnson, 35, says she has two fibroids, and one of them is the size of a grapefruit.
“I have heavy menstrual cycles for longer than 15 days, [and] on top of that, I’ve been fainting because I’m losing so much blood,” the reality star adds. “My doctor said I would start hemorrhaging, which [would mean] I would then need to have blood transfusions. To avoid that, they’re trying to rush and get it out.”
The 35-year-old expresses her fears about having surgery and not knowing how much she will be affected by her menstrual cycle each month.
In October 2018, Johnson shared images from a hospital after having a blood transfusion but did not explain the reason for the procedure.
