Explosive devices found in the vehicle of the suspected suicide bomber.
The Police in Yobe State have arrested a suspected Boko Haram member while attempting to blow off a police station in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
Witnesses told Channels Television on Sunday that the bomber, who came from southern part of the state to Damaturu in a pickup van, ran into the sand bags erected as a protective measure against any possible attack on the ‘A’ division located in the heart of the town and was subsequently arrested.
It was learnt that the suspect later confessed having some Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) loaded in the pickup van which was later confirmed and diffused by the anti-bomb squared of the Damaturu Police command.
The witnesses said the suspected bomber had been handed over to the 7 division, Special Operation Battalion in Damaturu for further interrogation.
The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Sanusi Rufai, who confirmed the incident in Damaturu, gave the name of the suspect as Abubakar Umar who is 19 years old.
The suicide bomber according to him is on a mission to blow off the A Division of the Nigeria Police as well as kill innocent people at the busy central round about in the heart of Damaturu metropolis.
The CP said after searching the Chevrolet Pickup van brought by the bomber, 5 constructed cylinders with explosives devices, 20 litres of diesel and 10 litres of premium motor spirits were found in the van.
Other items found in his possession were; five 9.5 battery charger, 1 fire extinguisher containing explosives and a world clock.
The suspect, according to him, is still undergoing interrogation. He called on the public to continue to partner with security agents in efforts to fight terrorism in the state and the country as a whole.
