Chinese Doctors that arrived Nigeria to help with Coronavirus Pandemic has gone missing says FG

The Federal Government has said it does not know the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors and technicians who came into the country to offer assistance to Nigeria in the fight against the Coronavirus.

Speaking at the daily briefing of the PTF in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, wondered why there was so much interest in knowing their whereabouts and he told journalists not to ask him the question again.

Ehanire said: “I want to explain first of all that I think not all of them were doctors and I heard that some of them are technicians, but they are staff of CCECC, the Ministry of health is not their host, so we can’t always explain what happened to them or where they are.

There seems to be a lot of interests in these doctors but they are the staff of a company and I think they are on the company visa. So I will be very happy if you don’t ask me about where they are because they are not really our guests in that sense. .

But we have been able to learn some things from them by interacting with them from their experience in their country, we shared ideas about what they did in their country in managing

Lagos State might go on another Lockdown again Says Gov Sanwolu

Gov. Sanwo-Olu says We are at a critical point in the management of the COVID19 pandemic in our state and every resident needs to Take Responsibility for their health and wellbeing. As citizens, we have a great burden upon us, to behave responsibly.

These times demand a lot from us, in terms of actions and behaviours that may not be comfortable. It is difficult to adjust to the changes, but adjust, we must. As a government elected to uphold the security of its citizens, which includes health security, we will not hesitate to review the terms of Easing The Lockdown if we do not see an improvement in the adherence to our public health guidelines over the next couple of days. Despite massive advocacy, it is disappointing to see the crowd at banks & markets across the state flouting the guidelines.

We will be forced to take the painful decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear that Lagosians are determined to flout the rules. In the weeks ahead, there will be a change in our isolation strategy as we transition towards decentralization. We will be introducing community management of cases by accrediting primary healthcare facilities for the management of mild-to-moderate cases of #COVID19 patients. Low compliance with the guidelines by operators of commercial buses and the flouting of the directive by commercial motorcycles will not be tolerated and the security agencies have been directed to confiscate any motorcycle seen flouting the rules.

Supreme Court Nullifies Orji Uzor Kalu’s Conviction

The Supreme COURT has nullified the Conviction of a Former Governor of Abia State Dr Orji Uzor Kalu.

Supreme Court holds that Justice Idris JCA lacked jurisdiction to try and convict Orji Uzor Kalu and 2 Ors. Decision convicting them has been set aside by the Supreme Court. Section 396 (7) of ACJA is unconditional.

The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a seven-man panel of Justices led by Justice Amina Augie, held that the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction when it convicted Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu.

It held that trial Justice Mohammed Liman was no longer a judge of the Federal High Court as at the time he sat and delivered the judgement that convicted the defendants for allegedly stealing about N7.1billion from Abia state treasury.  According to the Supreme Court, Justice Liman, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal before then, lacked the powers to return to sit as a High Court Judge.

It held that the Fiat that was issued to him by the Court of Appeal President pursuant to section 396(7) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was unconstitutional. Consequently, the apex court vacated the judgement that convicted the defendants and ordered a fresh trial of the defendants.

NCDC To Forcefully Vaccinate Nigerians for Coronavirus

StopTheNCDCBill Nigerians Complain About Bill to Strengthen NCDC To Forcefully Vaccinate Nigerians. The House of Reps recently drafted The Infectious Diseases Act which grants the NCDC more administrative powers from forceful vaccinations to limitations on Freedom of association.

The Bill was sponsored by the Speaker of The House of Reps, Femi Gbajabiamila. While many House of Reps members openly denied knowledge of the bill, responding, Gbajabiamila appologised to members over his failure to circulate the bill properly, blaming it on the emergency situation in the country.

He argued that this was not going to be the first time a bill would be passed on the floor of the house, without proper circulation ahead of debate. Gbajabiamila also argued that Public Hearing was not an integral part of lawmaking, saying that not all bills that had been passed by the house went through public hearings.

The speaker urged the house to pass the bill for second and third reading and transmit it to the Senate for concurrence. When the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Ahmed Wase put the matter to vote, most members voted against it but he ruled that the bill be passed for second reading. However, when it was time for consideration of the bill at the Committee of the Whole before it was passed for third reading, Gbajabiamila said that it should be stepped down to Tuesday, June 4, to enable members go through the bill. Some Nigerians have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Bill.

Nigerians started the #StopTheNCDCBill to lament their fears about forced vaccinations and granting the NCDC too much power. As at 11:55pm 29th April. NCDC reported 1728 confirmed cases in Nigeria and 51 Deaths.
