The Central Bank of Nigeria has released $265m to airlines operating in the country to settle outstanding ticket sales


A breakdown of the figure shows $230 million was released as special FX intervention while another sum of $35 million was released through Retail SMIS auction.


Confirming the release in a statement, the Director, Corporate Communications Department at the CBN, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi said: "The Governor, Godwin Emefiele and his team were concerned about the development and what it portends for the sector and travelers as well as the country in the comity of nations."

Primate Elijah Ayodele has predicted that the economic situation of Nigeria will get worse, to the point where fuel would sell for N250 per litre, and pure water will sell for N50.


The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church warned that the rate of inflation would rise astronomically.


He said five litres of groundnut oil would sell for N5,000, a measure of Garri would sell for N1,500, and cement would sell between N5,500 to N6,000.


In a statement signed by his spokesman, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele said the situation in the country was getting to a point where the police and Army would go on strike because the government would not be able to pay their salaries.


He said: "Our economy is in serious shambles; it will get to a point where the police and Army will go on strike because of payment.

 Police command has arrested a 30-year-old woman, Farida Abubakar in connection with the murder of her husband

 



The Kebbi State Police command has arrested a 30-year-old woman, Farida Abubakar, in connection with the murd£r of her estranged husband, Attahiru Ibrahim Zagga. 


Spokesperson of the command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, August 26, said Ibrahim, a Magistrate judge with Kebbi State judiciary, was st@bbed to d£ath in his Birnin Kebbi house on Thursday night. 


"On 25/8/2022 at about 2140hrs, Policemen attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Gwadangaji, received an information that, a suspected strange noise was heard from the house of a neighbor, one Attahiru Ibrahim ‘M’ of Alieru Quarters, Birnin Kebbi, and his gate was also locked," the statement read.

Completely eliminate terrorists, Buhari tells security agencies


President Muhammadu Buhari has called on security agencies to take the fight to terrorists’ hideouts and ensure they are “completely eliminated”. He gave the directive in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital at an event to mark World Humanitarian Day.


”The Men and Officers of Operation Lafiya Dole, Security Agencies, and the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) are very much appreciated for their commitment to the fight against insurgency,” presidential aide, Femi Adesina, quoted his principal as saying. ”I commend their professionalism and tactical penetration to the hideout of the criminal elements, leading to appreciable improvement of the security situation in this North East Region, without which the resettlement of the IDPs would not be possible.

Lagos residence of media personality and activist Agba Jalingo was on Friday August 19, stormed by police officers from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.


Jalingo who confirmed police officers surrounded his residence at Alapere community, told Channels Television that at 04:23 pm, his wife and daughter were already held down by the policemen.


He said; 


“Policemen just surrounded my house. About three to four of them. I don’t know who sent them and I am worried. They held my wife and my daughter down. They are asking for me.”


Divisional Police Officer of Alapere police station, Awe Kayode who confirmed the development, said the officers at the activist’s residence were sent from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Terrorists release four more Abuja-Kaduna train attack passengers





Terrorists who attacked an AK9 train in Kaduna state on March 28 have released four more hostages in their custody. 


The released hostages include an 85-year-old woman, Hajiya Halimatu Atta and her 53-year-old daughter. 


The two others are Sani Abdulmaji (Adama Aliyu and MS Ustaz) and a Sokoto state indigene, Alhaji Modin Modi Bodinga.

Emirates suspends all flights to Nigeria from September 1 2022


Emirates Airlines on Thursday said it would suspend its flight operations to Nigeria from September 1, 2022. The flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) disclosed this in a statement, blaming its decision on the inability to repatriate its earnings in foreign exchange from Nigeria.


This is coming about three weeks after the airlines appealed to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, to support the repatriation of its revenue said to be $85 million. Nigeria is facing a forex exchange crisis and this has also affected the nation’s local currency — Naira — to depreciate against the dollar.

Lagos extends Okada ban to four more Local Governments


The Lagos State Government has extended the ban on commercial motorcycles, better known as Okada, to four more council areas. Transportation Commissioner, Frederic Oladeinde, who disclosed this during a briefing in Lagos on Thursday, said the move followed a review of the impact of a similar ban in six local government areas.


“Based on the apparent positive impact of the ban and the resolution of the Stakeholders’ forum, Mr. Governor has approved the ban of Okada in another four (4) LGs and their respective five (5) LCDAs for the 2nd Phase of the total ban, in addition to the on-going ban in the six (6) LGs and their respective LCDAs,” the commissioner explained.

45-year-old Nigerian man has said to have died in India

 

A 45-year-old Nigerian man has died in India after suspected drug capsules which he was allegedly carrying in his stomach for smuggling, burst.


Police sources said that the deceased identified as Ibrahim came from Nigeria to Pune about a decade ago and was married to an Indian woman from the Kondhwa area of the city. 


It was gathered that Ibrahim was found dead in Delhi after he was declared missing by his wife.


According to ETV Bharat report published on Friday, August 19, after Ibrahim suddenly went missing, his wife lodged a complaint with the Kondwa Police Station in Pune. 


When investigators found that Ibrahim used to meet his friend Andy in the Mira Nagar area, the case was handed over to the Mira Nagar Police station for further investigation.

Details of Filmmaker, Otu Njama death

 




Otu who is in his Thirties died on, August 9.

His sister, Judith, confirmed the sad incident to GLB.


According to reports,  he was found dead in his home in First Unity estate in Badore, Ajah in Lagos state at about 9pm.


He was said to have seen his doctor who after checking him told him his Blood Pressure which was about 200, asked him to rest but he reportedly declined as he has a show tomorrow August 11. He reportedly visited his bar located in the area and after seeing his staff and taking a meal, retired to his home and asked that no one should disturb him. Hours later, his body was to be discovered in his home.

Actress, Shan George, faults dismissal of Policemen






Veteran actress, Shan George, has faulted the recent dismissal of erring policemen by the Force.

In a video on her Instagram page on Saturday, George called for a stop in dismissal and suggested other punishments.

She said, "I woke up this morning and I heard about another policeman, who has been dismissed.

"I'm thinking that it's not a good idea to be dismissing them. You can demote, suspend, reduce their salary but to dismiss them and put them back into the society as jobless people?

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has said young Nigerians who make up 60 per cent of the population must elect good leaders and create a better country in 2023.


Kukah stated this during an interview on Channels Television.


Speaking on the role of youths in the 2023 elections, Kukah said young Nigerians will determine the outcome of the next general election.


The Catholic bishop added on Thursday that it would be a tragedy for young Nigerians if they did not see that they had the opportunity to change the country


“This election, whether we like it or not, is going to be determined by the young people of Nigeria, who are better informed and far more patriotic than those who governed them,” he said.

Actress and Communications director of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Monalisa Chinda Coker, has said that the numbers of the kidnappers of two actors can be traced.


Two actors, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel, were abducted in Enugu on Friday.


The abductors have been in touch with the families of the victims and demanded $100,000 ransom.
