After the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the scene of a bomb explosion this morning in Nyanya District in the outskirt of Abuja. security agencies have confirmed that 71 persons have so far lost their lives, while 124 others have been moved to about 8 local hospitals for treatment. Frank Mba, a police spokesman, publicly disclosed that at least 71 people had died, and relayed this to journalists on behalf of other security agencies at the scene of the blast. He added that 16 luxury buses were razed with 24 others were destroyed in the blast.
The police spokesperson said information centres would be opened at all the hospitals where survivors were being attended to in order to provide information to their families. Bomb Disposal Squad have since been to the area. Security agencies have been placed on red alert throughout the Federal Capital Territory following the explosion that occurred at about 6.55 a.m. The agencies are already paying very close attention to all vulnerable points, including motor parks. Security agencies further advised the public to avoid unnecessary huge crowds, and be security conscious at all times. Most of the affected passengers were workers and petty traders .
