More than 600,000 signature demand Brexit to be revoked

Petition website crashes after more than 600,000 demand Article 50 be revoked

The number of people signing the online petition suddenly rose overnight following Theresa May’s speech at Downing Street. Another 200,000 signatures were added in the eight hours after midnight. This morning the petition website went down, although has not been confirmed if it was as a result of so many people accessing the website.

Margaret Anne Newsome Georgiadou who started the petition said: ‘The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is “the will of the people”.

We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People’s Vote may not happen – so vote now.’ The target for petitions to be considered for debate is 100,000 signatures.

Theresa May is facing a backlash from MPs as she heads to Brussels to appeal to EU leaders to grant her a delay to Brexit. The Prime Minister’s Downing Street statement, in which she blamed MPs for failing to implement the result of the 2016 EU referendum and told frustrated voters ‘I am on your side’, was described as a ‘low blow’ by one former Tory minister.
